Well this bear was on the ground so I figured it would make for a good cell phone photo.
But since we’re here…. Oakland spent a lot of money installing these new benches and putting palm trees in place of parking spots over here in the East Lake District.
My question is why do all the benches face inwards like this one? It’s facing an old beat up shack(which has sense been run over by a car).
It could have faced out but they put a palm tree right smack where a parking spot used to be.
I don’t think people in Oakland like sitting with their backs towards everyone.
I have seen one person using this bench though and they were a local crazy I used to see walking around.
Unfortunately the only info I can find on this project is here. Nothing about cost, inward facing benches no o0ne uses, palm trees in place of parking spots or anything.
“5th Avenue – Pedestrian-oriented street lights, furniture, and street trees from East 18th Street to Embarcadero, East 12th Street: from 2nd to 5th avenues, and International Boulevard: from 2nd to 5th avenues”

And while we’re at benches here is an awesome picture I took of graffiti art or more like a mural at a bus bench on Park Blvd. near what used to be the Parkway Theater.
